Amsterdam

Capital of the Netherlands, but not the seat of the government (which resides in The Hague), it is a fascinating blend of architectural styles. From the seventeenth century canals introduced on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites, to the early designs of the Dutch architect Berlage and the architectural movement of the Amsterdam School. In Amsterdam there has always been a long tradition of religious, political and philosophical tolerance. Tradition and innovation have always coexisted, just walking along the avenues or the canals to realize it. It also transpires its rich city past, established in the seventeenth century, when it was the main Nordic city for world trade, culminating with colonization and the establishment of the Dutch East India Company for the spice trade. It is one of the cities with the highest density of museums in the world, all of high historical and artistic value.

  • Van Gogh Museum : Absolutely not to be missed is the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam which has a collection of works by the Dutch artist unique in the world. Temporary exhibitions of artists from the modern and contemporary scene are hosted at the Van Gogh Museum.
  • Anne Frank House : Do not miss the very suggestive visit to the Anne Frank house, which traces the story of the young Jewish girl and her famous diary, to the dramatic conclusion in the Nazi concentration camp of Bergen, where she died in 1945 .The house of Anne Frank was the original house where the girl was hiding with her family, you can still see some objects of her daily life and the hiding place. The house has then become a museum and there is a foundation to she is dedicated.

Utrecht

Like Amsterdam, Utrecht is also a city of canals, thanks to which it has a typically picturesque appearance. The city is home to the Catholic primate of the Netherlands and another bishop at the head of the church of the Old Catholics, who broke away from the church of Rome following the enunciation of the dogma of the Pope's infallibility, commissioned by Pius IX in 1870. Utrecht is a city rich in history. The foundation dates back to 47 AD when the Roman emperor Claudius ordered his general Corbulo to erect a defensive line along the river Reno to protect the northern border of the empire. One of the strongholds was built near one of the crossings of the river Reno and for this reason called Traiectum (which means passage / crossing). In the local language the name was transformed into Trecht, then Uut-Trecht (low passage) to eventually become Utrecht. In the place where the castle stood, now there is the Dom Church, built in the thirteenth century.

The Hague

Seat of the Dutch government and residence of the queen, The Hague is the second largest city in Holland covered in greenery, with more than 400 hectares of forest. A visit to the city of Den Haag means theater and culture, shopping in the center or relaxing on the beaches of Scheveningen or Kijkduin. It is precisely the city-beach combination, one of the most distinctive features of the city, unique in the Netherlands. The Hague is internationally recognized as a symbolic city for freedom and justice. This recognition has been rooted since 1899, when the first international conference for peace was held in the city. The historic core of The Hague consists of the Binnenhof (inner courtyard) and the Buitenhof (external courtyard), a group of buildings that today welcome the presidency of the council of ministers, the senate or upper house and the parliament or lower house. Port of Prison (Gevangenpoort). The ancient prison of The Hague is now a museum where torture instruments are exhibited, most of which date back to the 17th century. Although not large, the Mauritshuis art gallery is among the most interesting in The Hague. It has a vast collection of works by great masters with the pride of the 'Girl with a pearl earring' by the painter Vermeer. Historical Museum (Haags Historisch Museum). The Haagse Gemeentemuseum is known for its extensive collection of paintings by Piet Mondriaan Madurodam, or Miniature city Madurodam (Holland in miniature) is the perfect place to discover all the most fascinating aspects of Holland. Here are all the most famous Dutch attractions rebuilt in all the details in 1:25 scale: the Alkmaar cheese market, the Peace Palace of The Hague, the Royal Palace in Dam Square and the houses on the canals of Amsterdam beyond to parts of the famous 'Delta' engineering work.
