Villetta Barrea

Barrea (990 m. Above sea level.) Is a small village with a local population of about 600 inhabitants, situated in the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise, the western end of Lake Barrea. The area, surrounded by the highest mountain in the Park and crossed by numerous streams that feed the river Sangro, is a veritable Eden of great tourist interest and natural beauty, home to rare animal species like the chamois of Abruzzo, the bear bruno Marsicano, the Apennine wolf and the golden eagle. The Camosciara

The Camosciara is the most popular and well-known part of the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise. Its core is the spectacular natural amphitheater, with its spiers and jagged ridges of dolomite bainca and gray, is very similar in structure and appearance to the Alpine dolomitche mountains; the area extends downstream up to the river Sangro and encloses in its own context the Integral Reserve area where the integrity of the territory deserves the absolute conservation. In the 60s, following a project for the construction of lifts for skiing, which was blocked by the Park, the Province of Aquila built within the area a road that was offended heavily l ' natural integrity; only in 1998, after years of bureaucratic delays, the municipality of Civitella Alfedena was able to take possession of the road and, in agreement with the Park Authority, in close to motorized traffic. Today you can enjoy the magnificent scenery along an easy route, in direct contact with nature, up to the Falls of the Nymphs and Tre Cannelle and use the many facilities in the area: biking, horseback riding, tourist train, area picnic with fire points, excursions guidate.Le amphitheater of steep peaks, never violated the years have allowed the survival of the Chamois of Abruzzo and Marsicano Bear, now Ente Parco symbol.
