San Saba and surroundings

San Saba, also commonly referred to as Santo Saba, appears as an ancient fishing village on the northern outskirts of Messina, situated in the splendid Tyrrhenian coast between Punta Faro and Capo Milazzo and is part of the VI District of the Sicilian city. The peculiarity of this portion of the territory Messina is, as can be easily understood, the coexistence of two environmental dimensions that are as different from each other as they are evocative, such as the verdant and uncontaminated hills of the Peloritan Apennines and the welcoming and endless waters of the lower Tyrrhenian Sea. cleanliness and warm temperature. In the summer season, in fact, unlike the Ionian, it presents, from early morning, a warm temperature that increases along the evening, culminating around midnight; it can therefore be more easily preferred by those who do not like too cold waters or populated by annoying jellyfish, but want to relax, letting themselves be lulled gently, at all hours, by the warm waves of a crystal clear sea. After a few steps from the shoreline, its depth is already around 2 meters, no longer allowing bathers to touch the bottom with their feet, while its bottom is gravelly for the first 10-15 meters and then becomes completely sandy. The lower Tyrrhenian, moreover, although not it is characterized by being very fishy, it is nevertheless rich in many fish species, making the town of Santo Saba an ideal place to host many fishing enthusiasts, both from the ground with the rod, both underwater and on boats with other techniques. San Saba it is also known for its sandy beach, absolutely free and free. This is very clean, welcoming and easily accessible by means of comfortable soil descents that connect it to the waterfront. Although it has often been the subject of interventions designed to lengthen it, such as the use of large anti-erosion boulders just offshore or close to the shore, the beach of San Saba still retains its characteristic of being fairly short and therefore satisfies those tourists who do not like to walk hours before reaching the shore. At Capo Rasocolmo, then, in the extreme eastern tip of the village, in an enchanting natural setting far from any human construction, the famous sand mountains rise, lying on the rock and at peak on the sea. These are small rocky promontories covered by sand pushed upwards by the winter winds up to the lighthouse of the cape: they become, thus, easily and pleasantly scalable, allowing, once at the top, the vision of a splendid panorama of the entire coast, as well as a fun and soft descent. San Saba is not, however, only a place of the sea; to the south of the country, in fact, thanks to the proximity of the Peloritani Mountains, there are various green spaces, countryside and wooded areas: ideal for outdoor excursions and picnics, immersed in the natural richness of the Mediterranean maquis. This is how the village of Santo Saba, along with its hilly districts, is able to satisfy all kinds of tourists, both those who love the sea, but also those who want to enjoy the charm of the mountains and the tranquility.
