The sea is the undisputed protagonist of Santa Teresa Gallura, a village of about five thousand inhabitants, which in summer are multiplied with the arrival of tens of thousands of tourists, who animate it among aperitifs in trendy clubs and live music. Vittorio Emanuele I of Savoy founded it in 1808, renaming with the name of his wife Maria Teresa a place called Longosardo (or Longone), privileged 'window' towards the cliffs of Bonifacio. The inhabited area follows the sinuous course of two inlets. To the east, Porto Longone, where the tourist harbor is located, to the west the bay of Rena Bianca, expanse of fine sand with dazzling colors, a few steps from the main square of the town. Its clear waters amalgamate with a thousand shades, repeatedly awarded with the 'Blue Flag'. It is controlled from above by the suggestive tower of Longosardo, built by the will of Philip II of Spain. Around the village other fascinating beaches, you can visit one or more a day: the large and equipped La Marmorata, the picturesque Cala Sambuco, the picturesque Cala Balcaccia and Santa Reparata, which will hit you with clear sea and rocky cliffs, perfect for diving. Continuing west, you will find the promontory of Capo Testa, northern tip of the island. Along the isthmus that connects the peninsula-promontory to the mainland, two beautiful beaches stretch out: Rena di Ponente and Rena di Levante. With any wind conditions, you will enjoy the calm sea by attending one or the other. From the western beach you get up to Capicciolu (or Aunt Colomba's beach), made of golden grains. Here (perhaps) stood the ancient Tibula (and its port), starting point for ships loaded with granite, used to decorate the palaces of ancient Rome. In the western part of the cape, stands the spectacle of Cala Lunga - Valle della Luna, symbol of Santa Teresa: among granite walls, shaped by nature, hidden coves emerge. It is the magical scenery of the Musiche sulle Bocche festival, even more spectacular if illuminated by the moonlight. While in the direction of Palau you will find the granite pools of the Valle dell'Erica, the long Porto Liscia-Sciumara, home of surfing, and the enchanting peace of the Conca Verde. In a romantic pinewood three kilometers from the town, the copper-clad dome of the Buoncammino church, built at the beginning of the 20th century on a medieval building, shines brightly. Do not miss the Ferrero Battery, the ruins of World War II fortifications with artillery posts, bunkers, barracks and mines. The most interesting archaeological complexes are nuragic: Lu Brandali and sa Testa.
