Pignola and surroundings

The territory of the Mountain of Rifreddo represents a territorial area of ​​remarkable naturalistic interest, which together with the historical and cultural emergencies of the town of Pignola, is a reality worthy of note from the tourist point of view. The main peak is Monte Serranetta (1475 m ), which represents the beginning of the Apennine chain of Puglia that from Potenza extends south to the territory of the Pollino National Park through a sequence of appenninic peaks of great importance, such as M. Vulturino, M. Alpi and the Chain of Sirino - M. Papa. The area is characterized by the geological, vegetational and landscape emergencies that make it an added value to the tourist offer of the entire territory of the municipality of Pignola. The various geological formations are easily visible in different parts of the territory along the hilly trail of the Mountain of Rifreddo which allows you to cross a wooded complex that presents in its interior the principles the forest types typical of the southern Apennines. From the landscape point of view, Rifreddo Mountain offers many panoramic views that allow for a 360 ° viewing of the territory. The very same name of Monte Serranetta, stands as a "net" peak, ie clean, free from vegetation and hence obstacles to landscape observation.
